Columbus Housing Improvement Program

Description

The Columbus Housing Improvement Program, administered by the City of Columbus, offers funding for the rehabilitation of owner-occupied homes. This program provides financial assistance for repairs including roof replacement, HVAC upgrades, and aging-in-place improvements such as accessible bathrooms, improved lighting, ramps, and other accessibility modifications.

Eligibility

Available for single-family owner-occupied homes within the city limits of Columbus. To be eligible, homes must be insured, not located within a 100-year floodplain, and property taxes must be current. They should also be in compliance with city ordinances and be permanent units with foundations (most mobile homes are not eligible). Additionally, homes being purchased on contract are not eligible for the program. Applicants must meet income guidelines provided by HUD to qualify.

Mayor's Office

Description

As the head of the city’s executive branch, the mayor’s office maintains six different departments as well as six city offices. The responsibilities of the office include: enforcing city ordinances and state laws; appointing, supervising, and removing heads and employees of city government departments, agencies, and divisions; appointing, supervising, and removing deputy mayors, with appointments subject to City-County Council approval; reviewing and either approving or disapproving, in writing and within 10 days, ordinances or appropriations passed by the City-County Council, with the mayor’s vetoes subject to being overridden by a two-thirds vote of the councilors; communicating and coordinating with the City-County Council and the Marion County Commissioners concerning the financial condition and budget of the city and county; and setting the salaries of city officers and employees, subject to City-County Council approval for salaries of police and fire employees.

Spay/Neuter Clinic

Description

Friends of Columbus Animal Care Services provides transportation for cats and dogs from Bartholomew County to various clinics in southern and central Indiana who provide high-quality low-cost spay neuter services to domestic and feral cats and dogs. We do this in an effort to reduce unwanted pet overpopulation in our county and promote animal health and safety in the community.
